Alexandra Balahur Dobrescu is a junior researcher in her 4th year of Ph.D with the programme “Applications of Computer Science” at the University of Alicante. She is a Computer Science graduate of the “Al. I. Cuza” University of Iasi, Romania (2007). Her main research field is Natural Language Processing, with primary interest in opinion mining, emotion detection, information extraction and textual entailment. Her PhD thesis is in opinion mining from multilingual, multi-genre texts. She is author of over 30 scientific publications, in international reviews and conference proceedings. She was a trainee for 6 months with the Europe Media Monitor action, Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizens, in the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy, and a trainee for 3 months at the Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany, where she applied opinion mining to different tasks. She is and was a member of the implementation team in different European FP6, FP7 and COST projects containing interdisciplinary research on the impact of technology on social phenomena. She was a reviewer for different Natural Language Processing conferences and workshops (RANLP, SEPLN, WOMSA, eETTs) and a member of the program committee in several workshops on opinion mining (WOMSA, eETTs).
