Biography and research interests

Studies:
Law School of Athens University (1982); Ph.D. in Criminology, Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) (1993), Dissertation title: “The points of resistance of the concept of dangerousness” (in french).

Research experience:
External evaluator of the project “What works with offenders? – European networking for the identification of succesful practices in preparing ex-offenders for employment integration”. Project funded by the European Commission under the budget line ‘Preparatory actions to combat and prevent social exclusion’ of the European Social Fund (September 2003).
Scientific collaborator of the research « Creation of innovatives tools for the professional formation of juvenile deviants », LEONARDO DA VINCI, 1999-2001.
On-going co-evaluator of the action “Development of Guidance and Counselling Services of the Research Center for Gender Equality (KETHI)” – Project: “Combating the social exclusion from the labour market” (2000-2001).

Main Research Interests:

  • Criminological aspects of the European Integration: criminology in the era of  “globalisation”, social control beyond the “nation state”, the interaction between local, international and supranational levels of social control, human rights and state of law in the “new field” of social control, migrant populations as targets of social control, the “european citizenship” as a tool of social control, etc.
  • Criminology and literature: epistemological and methodological conditions for a “dialogue” between two areas of discourse about crime.
