Sebastian Sevignani studied media and communication, philosophy, and theology at the University of Salzburg. He obtained a master's degree in communication studies (Mag. phil.) in 2009. From 2007 until 2010, he worked at the University of Salzburg's Department of Communication Studies as scholar in the Media Economics Research Group (Abteilung für Medienökonomie). He has started work on his doctoral thesis, which focuses on the social possibilities/ potentials of the media and the problem of privacy in (knowledge-based) capitalism.
His current research interests in the context of and besides his doctoral thesis are: (critique of) the political economy of the media, ideology-theory, Frankfurt School theory, critical social theory, critical media and communication studies, dialectical philosophy, epistemology, the influence of emotions on social change.
At the University of Salzburg, Sebastian Sevignani has taught courses on “media economics” (summer term 2009), “ideology and the media”, “media concentration” (winter term 2009/10), “culture industry”, “critical theory, education, media and the student movement” (summer term 2010)
