My research focuses on surveillance and security from regulatory and discursive perspectives. I am interested in how surveillance - as an activity and as a technology - is ascribed with meaning in different political contexts. I devote special interest to the European post-communist countries, or rather, the importance of recent political history when political actors manage issues of security. Currently, I am engaged in a comparative research project that aims to enhance our understanding of the significance of "culture" and history as surveillance is introduced in local transport systems in Berlin, Stockholm and Warsaw, respectively.
