WG 1 is planning to organise a series of seminars, which will be held in spring and autumn of each year. These meetings will take the format of a seminar and also serve as the group's meetings.

- Nov 2010: Ghent (Theme: "The impact of surveillance on the surveillant and the surveilled"; 30th Nov/1st. Dec 2010)
- May 2011: Romania (theme: The Ghosts of Surveillance)
- Dec 2011: Haifa (theme: Documenting and Surveilling Individuals, date 7th & 8th December 2011)
- Spring 2012 : Lisbon tbc, date tba
- Autumn 2012: Florence (tbc; theme: "Acceptance/resistance as a political economy of surveillance", tbc)
- Spring 2013: final meeting; location tba
The seminars will be dealing with the following topic areas:
- Impacts and perceptions of surveillance
- Acceptance/resistance as a political economy of surveillance
- Who are 'we' in a Surveillance Society?
- Surveillance identities, bodies, subjectivities
- Note: Other proposals, i.e subject areas are welcome
The local organiser will decide which topic the seminar will focus on, more or less within this thematic range. These topics are general areas, the detailed focus will be decided locally.
Members of WG 1 are invited to come forward with proposals for locations and themes. The results of these seminars will be published in journals, as discussion papers or other.
These seminars will also serve as WG 1 organisational meetings.
