Examining regulatory developments in surveillance, including constitutional and legal settings, privacy, freedom of information and data protection.
WG4 will hold its sixth meeting at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, on the 18th and 19th of October 2011, where the primary topic will be the upcoming journal special issue. The meeting will coincide with the workshop: “Challenges for Balancing Crime Prevention and Privacy Perspectives” (see programme), where a number of LiSS experts will make presentations.
WG4 held its fifth meeting at the Alexandra Ioan Cuza University in Iasi, Romania, on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May, 2011, a meeting which also coincided with the Living in Surveillance Societies 2nd Annual conference. During the conference, WG4 members held a showcase presenting the continuing work of the collaborations between group members.
WG4 held its fourth meeting on the 24th and 25th of January 2011 in Brussels. The meeting was timed to coincide with the conference “Computers, Privacy and Data Protection”. WG4 organised three well attended panels during the conference together with ERA.
WG4 held its third meeting in the University of Ljubljana on the 29th and 30th of September 2010, at the Institute of Criminology. A public seminar, featuring presentations from WG4 members, was organised by Dr. Aleš Završnik, and attended by around 50 academics, government officials and students. Topics discussed included CCTV, cybercrime, biometrics and the regulation of surveillance by data protection agencies.
Following the seminar, WG4 held a closed meeting. Thematic presentations were made on the following areas of collaboration between group members:
